The Philosophy Café: Open conversation about meaningful things

I host a Philosophy Café twice a month at a Kalk Bay restaurant. It is a community of inquiry, a chance to hear yourself think, a place to talk carefully about what matters - without agendas, with nothing to accomplish.

The structure is simple. For the first few minutes, we canvass the group to see what's up, what's in the air, what we're wanting to think about together. We take off from there: sometimes circling through all the aspects of an issue, sometimes going off on tangents, sometimes dead on target. Just for example, we've talked about fundamentalism, meaningful work, betrayal, fishing quotas, wisdom, humility...

There's often profundity, passion, laughter and even a bit of surprise at how articulate, thoughtful and resourceful we can be together, when given half a chance.
